Top 10 Oil Service Stocks To Watch Right Now

Weatherford International (NYSE: WFT  ) is going through an identity crisis of sorts that I'm surprised hasn't raised some legal red flags or caused more concern on Wall Street. The company maintains its main operational office in Houston, was formerly legally based in Bermuda, moved to Switzerland in 2009, and now seeks the greener pastures of Ireland to operate at lower costs and further attract top talent. What's going on here? Is Weatherford gaming the system, oris itpossibly hiding something? One thing's for sure, this is perfectly legal but something sure doesn't smell right since tax shelters are increasingly being vilified in political circles here in theUnited States. Ireland has also been under pressure to makeits tax structures harder to abuse by multinational corporations.

The oil services player has been looking to capitalize on the favorable tax structure thatthe Swiss have benefited for years and years. With greater international scrutiny of Swiss tax laws as well as top executive and board member pay, Weatherford is now hoping to incorporate in Ireland while maintaining its tax domicile in Switzerland. Keep in mind thattech companies like Apple, Google, and even Facebookall take advantage of Ireland's favorable tax rate environment. That doesn't make it right for Weatherford to followthe samepath.

American States Water Co. (NYSE: AWR) is one of the best examples I can think of. Its current payout of 2.88% may not seem like much when compared to the likes of a Kinder Morgan Energy Partners LP (NYSE: KMP) at 6.5%, but when you consider that AWR has increased its dividend for the last 59 years, you begin to understand why this is pivotal to building your wealth, especially now.

  • [By Insider Monkey]

American States Water (AWR), meanwhile, is another dividend giant that has seen bullish insider activity of late. The Western US-focused water utilities company has raised dividends in 59 straight years and currently offers a yield of 2.9%. Somewhat astoundingly, American's payout ratio (47%) is still below its industry's average (59%), so the dividend growth doesn't look set to end anytime soon.

On Tuesday, analysts at Brean Capital upgraded American States Water Co (AWR), as they now believe the shares have reached an attractive entry point.

The analysts upgraded AWR from “Hold” to “Buy” and see shares reaching $28. This price target suggests an 11% upside to the stock’s Monday closing price of $25.22.

Brean Capital analyst Michael Gaugler said, “The shares have fallen to a price level that we now consider attractive, and our sum-of-the-parts valuation indicates fair value is $28 based on our 2014 EPS forecasts. We recommend investors begin accumulating positions under the $25.50 price level to allow sufficient (10%) upside (excluding dividends) to our target price.”

“We acknowledge that the current environment for utility stocks in terms of interest rate impacts is less than ideal. However, we note the shares of AWR (and our other utility coverage names) have traded at higher P/E multiples when the general level of interest rates was much higher. We see the impact of higher rates as short term and negligible, particularly when we look closely at AWR’s ability to continue to raise its dividend payout versus the peer group by using free cash flow from the ASUS business,” Gaugler added.

American States Water shares were up 72 cents, or 2.85%, during early morning trading on Tuesday. The stock is up 8% year-to-date.

  • [By MONEYMORNING]

If you're buying a stock for income, note that, along with how much money you expect it to kick off. That way you can look back years from now and really appreciate something like an American States Water (NYSE: AWR) pick, which has increased its dividend for 59 years.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Justin Jaynes]

A few days ago, I would have probably said when the Xbox 1 or PS4 launch. Now I'm changing my guess to the end of this month (source: PCWorld.com). According to PC World, Samsung's (SSNLF.PK) Ativ 9 Lite will start reaching customers on "July 28th." Based on conflicting reports between many tech sites, my initial thought was that Samsung would simply launch different flavors of SKUs. Now, according to articles such as the PC World article I am quoting, it is now described as a custom designed chip.

  • [By George Kesarios]

I am sure that Samsung (SSNLF.PK) would give an arm and a leg to be able to have its own fully fledged ecosystem. Like I have said before, it knows that eventually it will have to give up Android, because Google will eventually be a direct competitor. While I do not foresee Samsung putting in a bid for BlackBerry, I simply want to point out that an independent (and established) ecosystem is not an easy thing to come by these days. How many companies out there that are for sale come with an ecosystem?

Nokia (NOK), one of the biggest names in the smartphones industry, has been struggling for quite some time now in getting back its position as the leader in mobile phones. The company lost out to the rapid technological changes and the shift from traditional mobile phones to touchscreen smartphones. Apple (AAPL), along with BlackBerry (BBRY) and Samsung (SSNLF.PK), did most of the damage to Nokia's position since 2007. Since then, Nokia has never looked like the company that it used to be.
