Best Oil Companies To Own For 2014

Berkshire Hathaway Inc. (NYSE: BRK-A) and Warren Buffett have released the conglomerate’s full stock holdings as of September 30, 2013. This 13F filing with the SEC shows that the company’s total equity holdings came to $92.035 billion versus $89.03 billion at the end of June. Portfolio managers Todd Combs and Ted Weschler are becoming fixtures at the company as far as their ability to add to positions.

24/7 Wall St. has tallied these positions up on the fly and given color and reference on each holding. We have seen many changes to positions, higher and lower.

The biggest change was Exxon Mobil Corp. (NYSE: XOM) being added. We had suggested that Team Buffett needed to park its money there if it wanted more oil and gas exposure. After all, this is the second most valuable company out there and much larger than Berkshire Hathaway itself. This stake was valued at close to $3.3 billion at the end of the quarter.

General Electric Co. (NYSE: GE) is a changed position but only since the September 30 cut off period. Sadly, we may not have the full story here yet on the exercise of warrants from its old preferred offering before. We will have to wait until early 2014 before knowing this situation, so stay tuned here on GE.

The most important change was one we have called for endlessly, and we joked that Buffett finally took our suggestion. This was a new stake of Exxon Mobil Corp. (NYSE: XOM) with almost 40.1 million shares. We just outlined the 10 reasons he took such a big stake, and we would say that it seems likely that Team Buffett would only grow this stake through time. Shares were up yet another 1% on Friday trading to above $94.00, and the consensus analyst price target is $95.54. Note that some analysts see it rising to well over $100 in the year, or years, ahead. Buffett even made a statement in favor of Exxon, because he substantially lowered his stake in ConocoPhillips.
